Could YETI's new Hopper Backflip 24 be the ultimate backcountry cooler?
Yeti has built a reputation in the outdoors for making bomb proof, or bear proof, coolers that are built like a tank, keep ice for days, and are backed by a great warranty. Then much like then disrupted the cooler industry with their hard side coolers, they did it again to the soft side cooler segment with the introduction of their Hopper™ line. Yeti went and made the first 100% leakproof, tough as nails, soft sided coolers.
Now, they have pushed that soft cooler space even further by introducing the Hopper Backflip 24. With this version of the popular Hopper™ line up, Yeti has taken the recipe for that ultra tough, leakproof, soft side cooler and added two padded shoulder straps, with a sternum and waist strap to keep the cooler firmly on your back. The Backflip 24 does not feature any sophisticated fit adjustments for the straps like you would find on a multi-day pack, but we have found the set up to be quite comfortable for hauling ice cold beverages and lunch to your favorite backcountry fishing hole or for a day at the beach.
Another great feature of the Backflip is the carryover of Yeti's HitchPoint grid system that allows you to attach numerous accessories like the Sidekick Dry, Molle Bottle Opener, and Molle Zinger to make your adventures even more enjoyable.
The Hopper Backflip 24 has enough space to hold up to 31 cans of your favorite beverage with 12 pounds of ice or roughly 60 Fuji apples. However, we have found that 18 cans, some sandwiches, and a few snacks fit quite nicely.
The bottom line is, Yeti has once again set the standard for what a soft side cooler should be when it gets strapped to your back.
Live adventurously my friends.
